Quantum Tangle: Celebrating the Diversity of Experiences
Quantum Tangle is among the vanguard of Indigenous musicians transforming Canadian culture. Their music challenges, educates and encourages us all to be more socially aware, to build an understanding of the diverse realities of people in Canada today. They hope to make the music industry more accepting and a safer place especially for marginalized, 2SLGBTQ+, and Indigenous peoples.
Quantum Tangle’s Greyson Gritt, Tiffany Ayalik and newest member, Inuksuk Mackay, embrace their Anishinaabe-Métis and Inuit backgrounds fusing old-world sounds with new-world flair. Through lived experiences, they tailor their music to investigate various systems of oppression and empower those who are affected most by those systems.
While they are pushing boundaries, both artistically and socially, Quantum Tangle’s message is connecting with very broad and diverse audiences. Like many, they grew up experiencing media that didn’t represent what they saw and felt every day, making it harder for them to feel empowered and accepted. Now they have the opportunity to take up space and be that representation for others.
As long time Blundstone wearers, Quantum Tangle jumped at the opportunity to join the Blundstone Playlist Volume III. “We spend a lot of time outside and in rugged environments and Blundstones are the perfect footwear. We love how durable the boots are, and that ultimately means less waste for the planet.”
Quantum Tangle’s EP, Tiny Hands, won the 2017 JUNO for Indigenous Album of the Year. A full-length debut, Shelter as We Go…, followed. Blundstone Playlist song, “Freeze, Melt, Boil,” was written at the height of Dakota Access Pipeline protests (#NoDAPL) as a show of support. The protests spoke strongly to the band, strength is reflected in lyrics that explore the infringement of Indigenous rights and the need to protect our sacred water.
Pull on your boots and ear buds and get comfortable with this Juno-award winning band and their inspiring perspective on love, life and celebrating who you are.
